The 10,000 Degrees Senior Staff Accountant position is an integral part of the 10,000 Degrees mission to support students from low-income backgrounds to and through college to positively impact their communities and the world. At 10,000 Degrees, we believe that education is the foundation of a just and equitable society. Students and their families as well as schools and local leaders each play a critical role in educating the next generation and strengthening the economic vitality and social health of our communities. The students we serve are 100% from low income communities; 89% Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian Pacific Islander, and People of Color; and 85% first generation students.
Under the supervision of the Controller, the Accounts Payable Senior Staff Accountant is an integral part of the Finance team and works closely with the Controller and in conjunction with the CFO in ensuring that financial systems are working efficiently in order to support the achievement of 10,000 Degrees’ mission.
Responsibilities:
- Oversees all vendor activities from purchase to payment to ensure proper coding and timely payment of invoices and bills.
- Ensure timely recording of all company expenditures to help facilitate a 10-day month-end close and tracking to budget.
- Coordinates and handles all aspects of accounts payable including: vendor maintenance, A/P data entry, approvals, proper codification, filing and A/P aging analysis.
- Coordinates and processes payments, transfers, voids, and reissues including check and ACH disbursement.
- Oversees all credit card processing from purchase to payment including training card holders on proper coding, proper documentation, and obtaining proper approvals.
- Coordinates, processes, and files 1099 forms annually by the deadline.
- Maintains supporting schedules and prepares month end journal entries for: Fixed Assets, Deferred Revenue, Prepaid Expenses, depreciation and amortization, bank transactions, and others accounts as needed.
- Assists in the preparation of periodic Federal, State and Local filings as needed.
- Participates in annual audit preparation and fieldwork.
- Maintains electronic and physical filing systems.
- Assists the Controller & CFO with accounting analysis, ad hoc schedules, and other duties as needed.
- Applies Generally Accepted Accounting Principles to all processes.
- Communicates directly with other departments when necessary.
- Cross trains on other roles in the Finance department to enable back-up coverage.
- Provides back-up for other team members including Controller, A/R, Scholarships and Payroll as needed throughout the year.
- Use technology to identify and implement efficiencies in processes and systems.
- Other Ad hoc projects as needed.
Qualifications:

For this position, we believe that you will be the most successful if you have the following:
Education Requirements:
- BA/BS degree preferred, preferably in Business, Finance/Economic or Accounting, equivalent work experience can be substituted
- A basic understanding of accounting principles (debit/credit bookkeeping) and how to apply them in practice.
- A basic understanding of accrual basis accounting.
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and how they relate to this work.
Experience and Skills Required:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in accounting/bookkeeping, non-profit experience a plus
- Sound understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Analytical and problem-solving skills, critical thinking
- MS Excel skills-intermediate to advanced (Vlook up, Pivot tables)
- Impeccable judgment and excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work collaboratively with all 10,000 Degrees constituents and staff, including direct communications with our vendors, banks, and other departments as needed.
- Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize work, and stay organized in a high-paced work environment.
- Attention to detail and ability to manage high volumes of data.
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously while providing a consistent and accurate work product.

Location
This position is open to remote work for California residents only. Applicant must be able to attend events 4 times a year.

Compensation Package
- $70,000-73,500 per year
