We are currently looking for an Access to Information Officer to join our Access to Information Team based at County Hall in Exeter.

The Access to Information team handles all requests for information received by Devon County Council under the Data Protection Act, Freedom of Information Act and Environmental Information Regulations, as well as requests from the Police and Crown Prosecution Service.

What skills & qualities we need from you?:

  • You will have extensive experience of working in an administrative role in a customer focussed environment
  • You will have specialist knowledge and experience in a role primarily responsible for data protection, records management, freedom of information, subject access requests or environmental information requests
  • You will have excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and be competent in presenting information in a complex subject to staff at all levels
  • You will enjoy working in a busy, challenging environment with conflicting demands and be able to make clear decisions to organise and prioritise workloads for yourself and your team
  • You will have a positive and enthusiastic attitude towards learning and supporting your colleagues
  • A sense of humour
  • The ability to think on your feet and work with colleagues to resolve problems
  • The ability to remain calm and resilient under pressure

What key tasks/responsibilities will the role involve:

  • Use of a laptop and various internal systems and Microsoft packages to conduct your role
  • Working in a flexible way – some home working and some office-based work
  • Managing and responding to requests for information under the above legislation in compliance with the Council’s legal duties
  • Providing accurate advice, guidance and support to Council staff and managers in all aspects of requests for information
  • Undertaking redaction of information as appropriate to ensure compliance with data protection legislation
  • Keeping up to date with evolving legislation, Codes of Practice, national and international standards and government agendas in relation to the management of information requests.

Part of the application will include you having to type a supporting statement. It is important that you look at the job description and person specification when typing your supporting statement and provide examples to show how you can demonstrate your skills and qualities. The supporting statement will form a VITAL part of the selection process, including if you will be invited to formal interview stage. This is your opportunity to sell yourself!

These are all full-time posts and most of the role can be undertaken from home.
