About the role:

As an Academic Editorial Apprentice, you'll provide general administrative support for various elements of the editorial process, assisting the Bloomsbury Visual Arts editorial team. You'll support colleagues within the department and liaise with authors, customers, and other departments such as Marketing and Production, to deliver a high standard of author care.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Preparing and administering the sending/signing of non-royalty bearing contracts (contributor etc)
  • Completing applications for CIP data and copyright registration
  • Commissioning peer reviews and soliciting pre-publication endorsements for projects as requested by their manager; ensuring these are delivered in a timely way; recording the progress of all projects under review/out for endorsement; ensuring payment as necessary
  • Arranging the ordering of copies of published books
  • Maintaining physical and electronic book files and records
  • Supporting editorial staff in managing data on internal database (Biblio)
  • Responding promptly and appropriately to external and internal inquiries
  • Checking and, if necessary, clearing copyright permissions under guidance from manager
  • Prepares scripts for handover to production to agreed standards and on schedule
  • Puts together cover briefs, cover copy and briefs cover designs, where required
  • Carrying out research into new projects on request of manager
  • Sending emails/letters of acknowledgement and rejection
  • Undertaking administrative tasks such as filing and archiving of paperwork

Entry Requirements:

  • You’ll need to attend an online interview with our Talent Team and pass initial assessments in maths and English once you have completed your registration.
  • You will need to be within an hours commute to the office location listed at the time of your application.

About the apprenticeship programme:

As a Publishing Assistant Apprentice, you’ll gain exposure to all key parts of the publishing process starting from the initial conception of a book, all the way through to production, sales, marketing, and publicity processes.

Throughout your apprenticeship, you'll be invited to monthly 3-hour live sessions hosted online in addition to working on your course content via our online learning platform.

To meet the off-the-job requirements for your apprenticeship, you'll also spend a minimum of 6 hours a week within the workplace developing your publishing knowledge, skills, and behaviours listed within your bespoke LDN Training Plan.
