Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 4:45pm

Job Summary: The Academic Advisor I is an entry level advising position. Under direct supervision, the Advisor I will be engaged in academic advising activities that support UA at the institution or college level.

Additional Department Summary: The Academic Advisor for Distance Learning advises undergraduate students in the College of Communication & Information Sciences with attention on academic schedules, registration, and degree progress issues alongside holistic student success including engagement, wellbeing, and transition. Provides assistance with new student orientation by facilitating presentations to both students and parents. Teaches CIS 100 (either in-person or online), a course specific to new students in the College. Assists with event planning, program coordination, communication with students, and the recruitment of new students as a member of Tisch Student Services & External Relations. Focuses on the College's distance learning students. Advises primarily via virtual meetings. Creates and coordinates new distance-learning student support services.

Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and some experience. Student or Graduate Assistant, Intern, or student oriented experience will be considered.

Skills and Knowledge: Strong organizational and interpersonal communication skills (written and oral). Strong computer skills and knowledge. Strong presentation and teaching skills.

Preferred Qualifications: Understanding of distance learning programs and students. Program development and coordination experience.
