3D Surfacing Designer, Industrial Design (Spennymoor)
Location: UK - Spennymoor, Flexible: 4 days remote, 1 day onsite
Purpose
The Industrial Design Surfacing Team is a key component of new product development for Stanley Black & Decker's Tools and Outdoor business. The team delivers complex 3D surface models that represent the design intent of the industrial design team. The 3D Surfacing Designer will help deliver 3D CAD surface models for brands including DᴇWALT, BLACK+DECKER, CRAFTSMAN and STANLEY FATMAX, and across product portfolios including Power Tools, Outdoor Products and Home Products.
As a member of the Industrial Design Surfacing Team, you will work closely with talented and experienced Designers, Engineers and Program Managers to provide critical 3D CAD productivity.
Daily duties will entail creation of 3D CAD surface models using a variety of surfacing tools in CATIA V5 to support new product development projects and concepts.
The Job (responsibilities):
- Create parametric surface models of new products and new product families using GSD workbench in CATIA that are adaptable to change as design evolves
- Employ Data Reuse techniques to help maximize efficiency and quality of throughput
- Manage time effectively in order to support multiple projects concurrently
- Adhere to company 3D modeling best practices
- Use a Product Data Management (PDM) system to manage 3D CAD data
- Meet product schedule deadlines
The Person (requirements):
- Degree or equivalent in Industrial Design/Engineering/Product Design or similar
- Experience of 3D CAD systems (CATIA preferred). Freeform surface creation a plus.
- Training on CATIA will be provided
- Knowledge of design for manufacture and plastic part design
- Understanding of manufacturing requirements, and how they are applied to component designs.
- An eye for aesthetics and detail, and an ability to translate 2D sketches into 3D CAD surface models that accurately capture industrial design intent.
- Great communication & collaboration abilities.

- Capable of multi-tasking and managing multiple priorities.
