Are you looking for a unique opportunity to help drive UBS's accelerating digital transformation?

We're looking for bright students to join the Group Internal Consulting, Emerging Solutions Summer Internship Program.
This program lasts 10 weeks and you may be potentially working on a summer internship project with exposure to our core businesses, such as the Investment Bank, Wealth Management, Asset Management and supporting Functions leveraging emerging technologies and delivering innovative machine learning, data science, quantitative modelling and blockchain solutions, among others.

You have the option to be considered for 2 different teams:

Predictive and Behavioral Analytics

Skills required:

  • Experience of working on ML & NLP data science projects, including data sourcing, feature engineering, model training, model evaluation, and data visualization.
  • Good theoretical understanding of ML algorithms (e.g., XGBoost, Neural Networks) and learning techniques (e.g. supervised, unsupervised, reinforcement learning).
  • Ability to write code in Python and build solutions using common libraries and frameworks (e.g. Pandas, scikit-learn, TensorFlow, Pytorch, Keras, spaCy).
  • Interest in the financial services industry.
  • Good communications skills and experience of delivering presentations (experience of MS PowerPoint is a plus).

NextGen Innovations

Skills required:

  • Knowledge of applying innovation methodologies such as Design Thinking, Jobs-To-Be-Done, Working Backwards, Lean Start-up, etc. as well as knowledge across the end-to-end innovation lifecycles (i.e. research/ideation to commercialization)
  • An awareness of the latest emerging technology trends and how they can be applied to our business areas. Expertise in an emerging technology (Quantum Computing, Extended Reality, Cyber, IoT, Generative AI) is a bonus.
  • Strong analytical background and attention to detail with a solid technical foundation and data literacy (ideally backed by a relevant academic degree and/or professional qualification)
  • Technical proficiency in one or more programming languages (e.g. Python) and technology platforms (e.g. Azure) would be a plus

We’re looking for someone to:

  • Work as part of a small team to design, build and deploy AI/ML/NLP projects.
  • Support and implement innovative solutions leveraging emerging technologies across all business areas
  • Raise awareness of the latest emerging technology trends and assess innovation opportunities for using new technologies to build the next generation of financial services
  • Manage your project’s timelines, stakeholders, risks etc.
  • Present your findings to senior internal stakeholders and project sponsors.
  • Develop their business acumen and consulting skillset to help advise internal clients across the firm.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships within the Emerging Solutions team, Group Functions and Business Divisions.

Your team

Group Internal Consulting (GIC) is UBS's internal consultant unit. We are a dynamic, driven and diverse team with over 750 people present in 5 regions across the globe. As part of the firm’s Group Integration Office (GIO), we work in close partnership with all divisions and functions to drive transformation and change across UBS, supporting the firm in achieving its strategic goals. You’ll be working in the Group Internal Consulting, Emerging Solutions team in London.

Your expertise

You need to be in the penultimate or final year of your studies and be on track for a 2.1 (UK grading system) or equivalent in your first undergraduate / bachelor degree.

You need to be in your penultimate or final year of your studies, ideally in a subject with a strong technical focus e.g.: Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics, Engineering, Data Science, Statistics, Economics or Finance. We are happy to consider applicants studying different subjects, provided they can demonstrate the relevant skills required for each team. This can be achieved through extracurricular activities, online learning, self-study etc.

Perhaps you’ve organized a fundraising event or taken part in team sports? Or persevered and passed an exam in a subject you found challenging? Think about how things you’ve achieved match the skills we are after.

On this 10 week summer program, you’ll be a real part of the team, working with our experts and learning about the industry, our clients, our firm and a specific area of it. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to develop new skills and make contacts. And if you impress us, we might invite you to join our Graduate Talent Program once you’ve graduated.
