Who we're looking for


Schroders' traineeship programme is your chance to gain a year of hands-on, paid work experience. If you've just finished your A-levels or your BTECs then this programme provides you with a chance to explore the world of work.

Although you may have never heard of Schroders before visiting our website, this trainee programme could be for you because key to the purpose of the programme is to teach you about what, why and how we do what we do.


On this programme, you'll be part of our Internal Audit Team within the Infrastructure part of our business.


As a trainee, you will receive ongoing training designed to develop throughout the year, where you will have the chance to improve your skills as well as your technical knowledge. We support you to take the Investment Foundation Certificate, which is a professional industry qualification and you'll be paid competitively above the London living wage.


The salary for this role ranges from £24k-25k.

You will join as a trainee as part of the Investment20/20 programme, you will have opportunities to meet and network with trainees and apprentices across the industry and participate in training, socials and insight events.


The team


Group Internal Audit



The role of Group Internal Audit is to provide independent and objective challenge to, and assurance over, the Schroders Group's control environment through the evaluation of risk management, control and governance arrangements implemented by management.



The department is led by the Head of Group Internal Audit who has a primary reporting line to the Chairman of the Board Audit and Risk Committee, with a secondary line to the Group Chief Executive. The Internal Audit Trainee reports to one of the department's Internal Audit Managers, whose team has responsibility for the delivery of a range of audits including across the asset management division's operations teams, distribution division, real estate business and our offices in the Americas.



Group Internal Audit works across the business and the Internal Audit Trainee may also support internal audits undertaken by teams that cover other areas of the business.



What you'll do



Your main role will be to support the delivery of audits as allocated by the Internal Audit Manager. This will include a range of activities and some of the tasks you'll be involved in are:
  • Researching the activities being audited by spending time with the area of the organisation being audited.
  • Reviewing policies, processes and standards related to the activity being audited.
  • Obtain relevant information for specific audit assignments by analysis and interpretation through face-to-face, email and other forms of data gathering practices.
  • Documenting business processes and control environments through process mapping.
  • Performing tests and analysing results to evaluate the effectiveness of controls.
  • Assisting with the delivery of internal audit findings, including written internal audit reports.
  • Assisting with managing the tracking of issues and actions arising from internal audit work.

The knowledge, experience and qualifications you need



  • You must be 18 years old by 4 September to apply for the 2023 intake
  • You must have gained A-levels (or equivalent) in any subjects – no minimum UCAS point required
