Heavy Civil Project Development - Project Controls Coordinator – London (Apprentice)

We are currently recruiting a Project Controls Apprentice, with an initial assignment supporting our Project Development Team, supporting our customers in developing projects from feasibility through FEED and preparing for project execution. The Project Development Team sits within our Heavy Civil business line and is a key part of Bechtel’s global infrastructure business unit, focusing on the development and delivery of motorways, hydro and pumped hydro storage power projects, and civil / marine works in support of projects undertaken by Bechtel’s other global business units. This business line is based in London but executes projects around the world including UK, Australia, North America and the Balkans.

Position Summary
We are looking for a creative, agile and resourceful Apprentice to help us fulfil our ambition of developing prospects into viable construction and engineering projects. This apprenticeship will allow you to grow and develop as part of our ‘Early Career Hire’ Talent pipeline within our project controls team, We will provide you with the experience, training and support needed to become a project controls, and open up many pathways in the construction industry.
The position involves a mix of site and office work.
Primary responsibilities:
- Support in the development of FEED and construction programmes
- Assisting each of the project’s Engineering, Construction and Project Controls (PC) teams in implementing and maintaining Bechtel’s PC processes and the identification of potential improvements for the customer’s consideration
- Supporting the development of these process and quality improvements to improve efficiency in the delivery of the scope
Additional responsibilities:
- Support to the Bechtel Leads to manage the work in accordance with project procedures and coordinate with engineering, construction, contracts, permitting and other site based resources on any constructability issues and with third parties to ensure that the project deliverables fully comply with the scope definition
- Perform work, generally within one discipline, which involves the interpretation or review of specifications, plans, investigations, surveys, structures, equipment planning, estimating, scheduling or cost control.
- Reviewing and checking data produced by other engineers or by suppliers
- Review of material quantity estimates
- Report on work progress against plan and review quality of work
- Assist in preparation of forecasts, quantity take-offs and change orders
- Contribute to Weekly Progress Reports
- Identify potential risks and issues, and provide effective technical solutions to mitigate these risks
Skills and Qualifications
3 A levels, or the equivalent, at minimum grade C. Ideally including maths or a science- An Average of 6 or above in GCSE Core Subjects of Maths, English, Chemistry and Physics
- A good demonstration of IT skills and a keenness to learn and work with Microsoft Excel and other data reporting tools
- Desirable knowledge and interest in design and construction
- Strong communication skills
- The ability to prioritise workload
- Willingness and ability to travel to and remain at offices or jobsites located across the UK
- UK driving license preferred
