Emergency Department
Clinical Trial Assistant, Band 3
12 Month Fixed Term contract in first instance
37.5hrs/week (Full Time)
The Emergency Department at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh has a worldwide reputation for research. In order to coordinate and support the expanding portfolio of research, audit and service improvement, the Emergency Medicine Research Group Edinburgh (EMERGE) was formed in 2008 and continues to grow.
These posts offer the exciting opportunity to work on a research study helping people who attend the Emergency Department to quit smoking. The post holders will work as part of a multidisciplinary research team, recruiting research participants, collecting research data and administering the trial intervention. The intervention consists of brief smoking cessation advice, offer of an electronic cigarette and training in its use and referral to stop smoking services. The post will also support on-going research within the team including venepuncture, sample processing, storage and shipment. The scope of studies and projects is expanding, creating an exciting and leading research specialty to work within. We are looking for enthusiastic candidates with a genuine interest in clinical research. The successful candidates will need to understand the dynamic and challenging environment of the ED and how that translates to research activity. The post holder will work alongside research nurses and clinical trials assistants and will be supported by the EMERGE team.
